It was an enormous honour and great recognition for me to be commissioned by Liverpool FC and Zut Media to produce a giant, one-off banner to launch the European 3rd kit for 2022/23.
The brief was to celebrate every single one of the Reds’ away wins in Europe over the decades. A giant map of Europe spangled with stars in gold, silver and bronze, telling the stories of victories in the European Cup, UEFA Cup and Cup Winners’ Cup respectively. 12 larger glittering stars were crafted to indicate where trophies were won.
To accompany the image, a quote from local band The Cheap Thrills song ‘Codependence’ which was used by the club to launch the new kit. Two-tone red and gold lettering adds a touch of class and deepens the texture of the finished piece.
As a final touch, a vintage feel is achieved with the addition of a 1980s style crest, crafted in four layers to give a feeling of depth and contribute further to the texture and quality of this enormous banner.
The banner took three weeks of design and intricate cutting work before all coming together in a long, hard day at the Zut Media studios. A remarkable job on the stitching from my long-term collaborator Debbie put the finishing touches to my biggest undertaking yet.
