Jurgen came.
Jurgen promised.
Jurgen delivered.
In one of his earliest interviews as Liverpool manager, Der Gaffer promised us an exciting brand of total football, and how we have enjoyed the entertainment and success it has reaped for the club.
In tribute to Herr Klopp, here are his words immortalised as a banner design for a forthcoming project.
The customer had a loose idea of how it would look, mentioning a “menacing Liverbird”. Unhappy with any of the images I found online, I set about designing my own, a task made more manageable by my recent purchase of a new Surface Pro with a stylus pen.
Adapted from images of an eagle and of a cormorant, I was able to create my own illustration which I think complements the heavy metal aesthetic perfectly. A fine gold outline helps the image to pop, four shades of yellow and gold provide richness and depth, while the copper-green eye applies a visual link to the original Liverbirds.
The text is immediately recognisable as the famous Motorhead font, another nod to the heavy metal theme, while the faux umlauts tip the hat to our boss’ German heritage.
The design took a long time to produce. The fine details of the bird involved hours of painstaking cutting, but the results are really effective. My favourite touch on this banner is the 3D stars, which add a real bit of class.
If you like this banner, you may be interested to know that this design is also available on clothing and other merchandise in my store.
