Many aspects of Liverpool culture are at play in this design. The quote is from Pete Wylie’s The Mighty Wah! song ‘Come Back’, which in turn refers to the obvious Gerry & The Pacemakers smash so familiar to all Reds.

The adapted Liverbird is a nod to Liverpool’s terrace culture and the love of the adidas brand which has been a part of our club since 1977, since those first forays into Europe and Wade Smith establishing Liverpool as the capital of cool. ‘The Originals’ text, a reference to those pioneers, helps to make this one extra ‘spezial’.

The font used for the text may also be familiar to trainerspotters – ADIneue, based on the famous adidas zugschrift.

Finally, the design includes the four trophies won in 2019 and 2020. A banner proclaiming Scouse Power – we’ve conquered all of Europe, and we’re never going to stop.
